I've always loved drawing trees. What's not to love? Strong shapes, texture, endless variation. Drawing the bark is my favourite part. If only I could paint them! Here's a quick study of the base of a tree.

absolutely love this one -- simplistic yet in-depth. great job!
Trees are a great subject, and every one different. Welcome to EDM. I love your work, especially those daffodils. You should be happy with them, I thinki they're gorgeous.
Hi Dave and welcome to EDM. Love your tree trunk. I think they reflect the personality of the tree like wrinkles on a face of a person. I like the other pencil drawings too, especially the magnolia blossom. Great work!
Beautiful texture and form of your tree trunk, Dave. I run away from painting bark even though I will stand and spend ages admiring it. I'm just a coward! Why can't you paint this?
This is a beautiful and sensitive drawing, Dave, welcome to EDM.

Dave! It is you. I found your blog from your comment on Robin N.'s blog. I thought that little picture looked like mothsailor.
I see you haven't lost your skill with pencils and now you are becoming adept at using watercolors too. I've been painting with watercolors for almost 7 years and feel like I will never run out of things to learn. I just don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. :D
Now that I've found your blog I'll check back to watch your progress.

jill, phthaloblu, irene, karen Thanks for your comments. I'm sure I'm going to enjoy being part of EDM.
Robyn Do you mean put paint over a drawing? I could, but not this one because it's not on heavy enough paper. I'll have to give it a try!
Stacy Yep, it's me! Good to hear from you. Thanks for your comment, though I think "adept" might be a bit strong! One day...
The texture on this is incredible - beautifully done! Your blog is wonderful - I'll be back; Welcome to EDM.

Very nice. I did some drawings of trees with a cheap black ball point pen. They too are lots of fun. Thanks for sharing your work.
Sorry, Dave, I didn't mean paint this drawing - I meant if you can draw this so beautifully what makes you think your can't paint it?:
Robyn I know because I've tried! :) It's much harder to get texture in watercolour than in a drawing; at least, it is for me!
