EDM #111 - Bowl

This is the first time that I've participated in the Everyday Matters weekly drawing challenge, which this week is to draw a bowl. So, here are some bowls, along with a few other random things that are on the same page of the sketchbook. The brown bowl is a first attempt to draw with my latest toy, Caran D'Ache Neocolor II watersoluble crayons. They're fun, but I think will take a bit of getting used to.

Dave what an excellent job you did with the crystal!
The crayons sound like fun, do let us see your future experiments with them...Isn't it fun getting to know a new medium!

Thanks Anita. I think the crayons will be good for outdoor sketching...when it gets a bit warmer!

Good sketches, Dave. I'm a big fan of Caran D'Ache products and the Neocolor II crayons are great fun.

I have a block when it comes to daffodils - have never managed to sketch them with any success!

Are you another WetCanvasser by any chance? :-)

Beautiful drawing of the crystal bowl, Dave.
I would like to know how you get on with the crayons on future drawings - I just can't get the hang of it!
Nice work.

Both bowls are great but the cut glass is stunning, so simply depicted but with great clarity - very nice.

I used to live in Oxford and my parents were married at Whytham. You have some lovely sketches on your blog. The crystal bowl is very convincing.

Good work on the bowls, Dave. I love the crystal and lemons. I read somewhere that you can use the Neocolour crayons like a pan of watercolour - not actually putting them directly on the paper, but applying the colour to a waterbrush (or regular brush) to transfer to the paper. That way they are a great way to carry colour when sketching outdoors.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

Alison -- Whytham is a lovely village. I often go walking in the woods there. Must take my sketchbook next time!

Robyn -- great idea...I'll have to give that a try, thanks.

Oh man. I LOVE the cut glass drawing. I'm a huge fan of the "macro" view ... this is just terrific. Cheers! Mary Ellen

Wow, Dave. You got that glass 100% . Fantastic! Highlights, the subtle change in value. Just perfect! Pretty soon your color pencil cowls will look like that. Such talent!
