Continuing with the autumn theme, here is a watercolour sketch of a horse chestnut, or a conker as they are better known in the UK. I haven't seen anyone playing conkers for ages. Do kids still play it? When I was a kid is was a big thing. Everyone had their own method for hardening them!
watercolour sketches conkers
You have turned the conker into a thing of beauty. I've heard that playing conkers is now considered a safety hazard. Many fun, dangerous games are disappearing from our culture! Unbelievable! *lol*
ReplyDeleteGood job on the chestnut, Dave. You've achieve a lovely brown gloss. Conkers are lovely objects, aren't they.
ReplyDeleteI believe conkers are now banned from schools Dave and, as the playground is where most of the conker wars took place, I guess it's fast becoming a thing of the past!
ReplyDeleteLovely sketch!
i like the depth and volume you gave the chestnut with the watercolors, well done!
ReplyDeleteI love your loose watercolor style, Dave - these last paintings are really successful. Thanks for the lesson in British culture, too - I had never heard of conkers before...
ReplyDeleteHow lovely Dave! Yes, conkers, I remember my children playing with them. This reminds me to go to the park and see if I can find some. They are wonderful to draw.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard the word "conker" for many years...it brings back memories of bruises.
ReplyDeleteNice depth you've achieved with the darks.

Aaaah - conkers!
ReplyDeleteI think they're going to be very big ones this year because of all the rain. They seemed to be growing large very quickly on the trees.
I love this watercolor study. It's really nice!
