Feed the birds...

Here's another version of the girl that I posted a while back, this time with added pigeons! The vague shapes on the upper right were supposed to represent a flurry of feathers as more birds hurried over!! The fact that I've had to tell you this shows how well that worked! :( Part of the reason for doing this was to experiment with a new squirrel mop that I've just got from Jackson's Art Supplies; their own brand ones are currently on sale with a 60% discount, so I couldn't resist. I've never used a squirrel brush before; I'm amazed both by how much water it holds and by how soft it is.

  3. Dave, this is a lovely little painting. You've got the pose of the girl just right.

I also love your roses and nigella - they are so loose, just hinting at the flower really and yet so recognisable. That's a very clever touch.

  4. I don't know if it's due to the new squirrel mop, but I think this one looks beautiful. The colors are so bright - lovely :))

  5. I'm laughing here, not at your sweet painting, but my mind or lack of!

I'm reading 'squirrel brush' and thinking 'what the h*** is a squirrel brush??' Thinking of shape and size etc, etc. Then squirrel hair dawned on me. Duhhhhhhhh! Yep, sure glad tomorrow's Friday. :)

The new brush has given you more freedom I think Dave. Keep going.

  6. On your previous post I wanted to add that you have a knack for painting flowers, but now I would rather say, you have a knack for working with watercolor...you can bring in beautiful detail, but also keep it clean and fresh like this painting...I also love the squirel mop, you almost feel dangerous when you have it in your hand!
